Pakistan Helps US Artillery In Afghan Border Region

A top U.S. commander says Pakistani forces along the Afghan border have helped U.S. artillery to fire on insurgents inside Pakistan.

Colonel Cardon Crawford says Pakistanis using U.S.-supplied radios have acted as spotters for American artillery units in Afghanistan that fire on militant positions in Pakistan. Field artillery units need such spotters near targets to improve accuracy.

Colonel Crawford, who is director of operations for the U.S. military command in Afghanistan, called the new collaboration a "huge step forward" in improving cross-border operations against militants.
