Sporadic Clashes Mark 36-Hour Strike in Bangladesh

Sporadic clashes between police and demonstrators in Dhaka and elsewhere marked the first day of the 36-hour strike called by the opposition to protest the killing of Awami League Advisor and former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria and four others.

In capital Dhaka, sporadic incidents of violence were reported. Baton-charging police fired tear gas to disperse crowds. Reports said police kicked main opposition Awami League MP Sohel Taj.
