2 Workers of Malaysian Gas Company Killed in Pakistan

Police in southern Pakistan say unidentified gunmen have killed two local contractors for a Malaysian gas exploration company.

Authorities say the drive-by shooting took place late Monday in a small town northeast of the port city of Karachi, the capital of Sindh province. They say the victims were traveling with para-military guards when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle. The guards returned fire at the assailants, who fled.

The motive of the attack remains unclear. Police have cordoned off the area and are searching for the attackers. The shooting took place near the restive southwestern province of Baluchistan, where rebel tribesmen have recently stepped up attacks on gas facilities, rail tracks and power and communication lines.
