Iraq Readies for Election Results

An Iraqi election official says the results of the January 30th vote will be announced on Sunday.

Farid Ayar says candidates will have three days to challenge the results before they become official. Preliminary results from Iraq's first free election show Shi'ite Muslim candidates far in front of Sunni Arabs for the 275 National Assembly seats up for grabs.

Sunnis are the minority in Iraq, but governed the country under ousted dictator Saddam Hussein. Many Sunnis boycotted the election, calling the vote a U.S. orchestrated plan to put Shi'ites and Kurds in power.
