Floods, Avalanches in Pakistan Kill 350

Pakistan is stepping up search and rescue operations for the victims of flash floods and heavy snows that have killed more than 300 people since Thursday.

The military has mounted a massive operation in southwestern Baluchistan province to rescue flood victims and provide them with badly needed relief supplies.

At least 250 people are confirmed dead after the Shadikor Dam in the Pasni region burst Thursday, sweeping entire villages out to sea. More than a thousand people are still missing and tens of thousands remain homeless. Two other small dams in the province also collapsed, causing material damage but no injuries.

In the north, at least 90 people have died in a series of avalanches and heavy snowstorms in the Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and North-West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan.
