BDR, BSF exchange gunshots in Panchagarh

  • Zaharul Alam

The border guards of India and Bangladesh on Friday exchanged gunshots for hours along the border in the northwest Bangladesh, officials said.

A top official of the Panchagarh district administration said the intermittent gunfights between India’s Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles began in the morning and continued till evening in Panchagarh, some 475 kilometres off Dhaka.

The trouble began as the BFS members started firing when Bangladeshi workers were building a dam of the Bangladesh Water Development Board at Barshalupara of Atwari upazila inside the Bangladesh territory, a government official in the district said, adding the BDR members fired back.
