Indian Environmental Group Wins Stockholm Water Prize

An Indian environmental group has won the annual Stockholm Water Prize for its work on harvesting and recycling rainwater.

Leaders of the New Delhi-based Center for Science and Environment will collect the 150-thousand dollar prize from Swedish King Carl the 16th Gustaf this August. The Stockholm International Water Institute said Tuesday the group's work on rainwater harvesting has shown many ways people can live with water scarcity -- including capturing rain in millions of individual storage systems and using it for irrigation and drinking.

The Stockholm Water Prize has been awarded annually since 1991 to honor achievements in water science management.
