Professor Anisuzzaman, one of the leading intellectuals and linguists of Bangladesh says that in order to protect the standard of Bangla language, particularly of a standard Bengali colloquial certain displine is needed. Although there has been arguments in favor and against and local dialects have been strongly influencing the use of Bengali in Bangladesh, a certain amount of standardization is absolutley needed. In an exclusive interview with VOA, Professor Anisuzzaman regrets the spelling errors in newspapers in Bangladesh but he also said that some words which may not be correct according to grammatical norms are still acceptable through usage. That provision lies in the grammar itself. He also says that Bangladeshi literary genre have not brought in any distinctiveness worth mentioning but of course in Bengali literature in Bangladesh there have been reflections of social realities reasonably distinctively.
