Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf have called for renewed efforts to resolve bilateral problems, including the dispute over Kashmir.
Prime Minister Singh welcomed General Musharraf, who is on the first day of a two-day visit to India, at a dinner Saturday in New Delhi. General Musharraf earlier said the two countries should seize what he called a "unique opportunity" for peace. India and Pakistan have twice gone to war over Kashmir, but have tried to ease tensions in recent years. However, officials have stopped short of saying they expect any major breakthrough during General Musharraf's visit.
Mr. Singh and the Pakistani leader are expected to hold talks Sunday on Kashmir and on a handful of new confidence-building measures proposed by India. General Musharraf also plans to attend Sunday's cricket match in New Delhi between the two countries' national teams.
