Transparency Survey Reveals :  More than 67 Billion Taka Bribery in Bangladesh Government Sector

Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) on Wednesday said staff of nine important Government sectors of the country take Tk 6, 796 crore cash in bribe every year. The Government officials and employees take the huge amount of cash as bribe in return for “providing 25 types of services,” for which they were hired by the Republic and paid them from the taxpayers’ money. The TIB officials, however, did neither disclose the ratio of the corrupt Government officials nor the number of individuals, who received the bribe. TIB is the local chartered partner of the Berlin-based global anti-corruption watchdog—Transparency International (TI), which had earlier identified Bangladesh as the most corrupt country of the world for the last four consecutive years in its international report. The total amount of bribe money transacted in the nine sectors—Tk 6,796 crore is equivalent to US dollar 1,078 million or Euro 878 million—banking sources said yesterday.
