India has lodged a protest with Bangladesh over a weekend skirmish along the border in which a senior officer was killed and a soldier injured.
A spokesman says the Indian foreign ministry conveyed the protest Monday to the acting high commissioner (ambassador) of Bangladesh in New Delhi.
The envoy was summoned and told that the "entire incident appeared pre-meditated and pre-planned."
Bangladesh, however, has said the clash took place when Indian border guards entered its territory.
India shares a more than 4,000 kilometer porous border with Bangladesh and is building a fence to prevent rebels and smugglers from crossing it.
Relations between the two neighbors have been tense in recent months amid mutual accusations that the other side is harboring rebels and criminals.
