Dhaka Blames Indian Border Guards for Unprovoked Firing

Tension has returned to the India-Bangladesh border, where Dhaka says Indian troops opened fire and wounded three farmers tilling their land, a charge denied by New Delhi. A Bangladeshi official blamed India's Border Security Force, saying five farmers working in a paddy were fired on in a clear provocation. But a senior Indian official said his country's troops had not fired at anyone. Last week, India accused Bangladeshi border guards of unprovoked firing on Indian border guards, killing a commander and wounding two soldiers. Later, Bangladeshi foreign minister Morshed Khan said the tension had been defused. Ties between the two neighbors soured in recent months after each accused the other of harboring rebels and criminals.
