Insurgents Strike in Baghdad, Kirkuk

  • VOA News

Insurgents in Iraq killed at least 22 people Thursday as U.S. Marines battled insurgents near the Syrian border for a fifth day.

In Thursday's deadliest attack, a car bomb killed 15 people in a Baghdad market. In a separate attack in the city, gunmen killed two high-ranking members of Iraq's defense and interior ministries. To the north, two car bombs in Kirkuk killed two people. And three US soldiers were killed in separate incidents in central Iraq. The attacks are the latest in a wave of insurgent violence that has left more than 300 people dead in the past two weeks. Meanwhile, U.S. Marines pressed on with a massive offensive against insurgents in western Iraq.
