Congress Party in the Indian state of West Bengal had a tussle within itself during a meeting to nominate candidates for the city corporation elections . The President of the Provincial Congress , Pranab Mukherjee , who is also the Defense Minister of India was assaulted during the meeting by a section of angry workers of the party. Some journalists were also beaten up by the angry party workers. The angry reactions were the result of a row on nominating candidates for some of the wards in Kolkata city.
