Bangladeshi security officials say special forces killed six suspected Indian insurgents Friday in a shootout near the northeastern border with India. At least two other rebels and one soldier were wounded. Members of Bangladesh's elite Rapid Action Battalion and the paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles led the raid in the Moulvi Bazar district, about 250 kilometers northeast of Dhaka.
The shootout came after troops launched coordinated raids on suspected criminal hideouts in the area. Officials say they recovered arms, grenades, and ammunition.
