India's External Affairs Minister
says New Delhi remains firmly committed to Sri Lanka's peace process, security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Mr. Singh made the comment Thursday in Colombo. He is beginning a three-day visit to the island nation aimed at boosting bilateral ties with special emphasis on economic and defense cooperation.
Mr. Singh is due to meet with President Chandrika Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and other high-ranking officials. He will also co-chair the Joint Indo-Sri Lanka Commission meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lakshman Kadirgamar on Friday.
The visit comes amid growing concerns that Sri Lanka's government could collapse over a deep divide within the ruling coalition over a proposed tsunami aid sharing deal with Tamil Tiger rebels.
