Fresh Violence Kills 14 in Kashmir

Indian police say a new wave of separatist violence in Indian Kashmir has killed 14 people, just a day after moderate separatists returned from a historic two-week tour of Pakistan.

Police say troops shot dead six militant infiltrators during a clash in northern Kupwara district, which borders Pakistan.

Indian troops also shot dead four militants in the southern district of Doda and Pulwama late Thursday in three separate gunbattles.

Also in Doda, suspected rebels shot dead a civilian late Thursday.

In the central district of Budgam, unidentified gunmen killed a former rebel, his friend and a bus conductor. The motive was not clear.

The fresh violence came as moderate separatists returned home from Pakistan, where they urged militants to join India and Pakistan's efforts to bring peace to Kashmir.
