Iraqi police say a suicide car bombing in the northern city of Arbil has killed at least 13 police recruits and wounded about 100 others.
Officials say the suicide bomber, dressed as a policeman, raced his vehicle onto a field where some 200 new traffic police recruits had gathered for training early Monday.
Hours earlier at least five Iraqi policemen were killed in a car bomb explosion at a police station in southwestern Baghdad. And in the northern town of Tal Afar, a U.S. soldier died after being hit in a roadside bomb.
Meanwhile the militant group Ansar al-Sunna claimed in a Web posting that it had killed a foreign contractor working for a U.S. company and six Iraqis traveling with him. The claim has not been verified.
