Explosion In Srinagar Kills Nine Soldiers, Wounds At Least 22

Nine soldiers are dead and at least 22 others have been wounded in a car bomb explosion near a popular tourist attraction in Srinagar, the capital of Indian Kashmir. Authorities say the explosives were placed in a car and were detonated by a remote control as a military convoy passed the Nishat Gardens near the Dal Lake on Friday. The Pakistan-based Kashmiri militant group, Hezb-ul-Mujahedin, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Militants have increased their terrorist activity in Indian Kashmir as India and Pakistan strive to resolve the decades-old Kashmir dispute under a broader peace process. The Hezb-ul-Mujahedin group demands Indian Kashmir's merger with neighboring Pakistan.
