A previously unknown group calling itself The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe has claimed responsibility for carrying out today's attacks in London.
The authenticity of the statement posted on an Arabic-language Web site has not been confirmed, and London officials say they received no warning or claim of responsibility for the attacks.
The Web site statement said the attacks were retaliation for Britain's actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. The group also warned Denmark, Italy and other nations that they will be punished unless they withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The statement said group members worked hard for a "long period of time" to ensure the success of the London attacks.
