Five people are confirmed dead and 13 others injured following a bomb blast on a minibus headed for a popular Turkish beach in an Aegean Sea resort town. The blast destroyed the vehicle on Saturday in Kusadasi, southeast of Izmir. Officials say they are investigating all leads, including the possibility of a suicide bomber or a package planted on the bus.
There has been no claim of responsibility, but one Turkish media report (NTV) suggests a female suicide bomber triggered the explosion. The fatalities include a tourist from Britain and another from Ireland. Four British nationals are among the injured. At least two of them are said to be in serious condition. The Irish and British foreign ministers have condemned the attack. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the attack the work of terrorists, but did not name a specific group.
