An Indian newspaper says about 200 people have been forced to do sit-ups in public as punishment for watching pornography.
The Hindustan Times reported Monday the incident happened in Balasore district of eastern Orissa state.
According to the report, police stopped the screening of the smutty movie at a local cinema, and made the all-male audience, some as young as 17, do 10 sit-ups each at a public square.
To make matters worse for teenagers, police ordered their parents to watch the punishment.
The newspaper quotes a local police chief, Sanjeev Panda, as saying he decided on the new approach of publicly shaming the audience, after actions against theater owners failed to stop the screening of obscene movies.
