Thousands of Israeli protesters remained surrounded by a huge contingent of Israeli police late Wednesday in southern Israel, hours after vowing to resume a banned protest march to the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli force has been ordered to block the marchers, who are trying to join forces with Israeli settlers in Gaza to resist the mid-August evacuation of the territory.
Israeli television said protesters were holding talks with the military aimed at allowing a small number of protesters to remain in the village of Kfar Maimon if the rest go home.
Earlier today, Hamas militants agreed with Egyptian mediators to stop rocket attacks on Israeli targets in and near Gaza, unless attacked by Israeli forces.
Under the deal, Hamas militants and rival Fatah forces also agreed to stop fighting each other.
