Iraq's President Asks Sunnis to Rejoin Constitution Committee

Iraq's President Jalal Talabani has asked Sunni leaders to resume their work on a new constitution, suspended over security concerns. Mr. Talabani called on Sunni members of the drafting committee to end a boycott announced after the murder of two of their colleagues on Tuesday. Mr. Talabani spoke Saturday after meeting with U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, who said it's crucial for all Iraqis to take part in creating the new government. Meantime, a posting on an Islamist web site said Al-Qaida loyalists in Iraq have claimed responsibility for seizing Algeria's top diplomat in Baghdad. It said the kidnapping is part of a campaign to drive out diplomats from other Muslim nations. Also, the U.S. military said a suspected Iraqi insurgent has died after collapsing while in U.S. custody. Officials say they suspect no wrongdoing in the death, which is being investigated.
