Nepal, India to Upgrade Four Border Posts

Nepal and India have signed a memorandum of understanding to upgrade four border crossings along their 1600-kilometer porous border, at a cost of more than $70 million - 5.6 billion rupees.

India's embassy in Kathmandu said in a statement that the memorandum was signed Wednesday by Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee and Nepalese Finance Secretary Bhanu Prasad Acharya.

The statement says the project is expected to bring convenience to a large number of people crossing the border everyday for economic and social interaction, as well as thousands of vehicles.

Nepal and India follow an open border policy.
