Bangladesh has observed the 30th Death Anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman , the founding father of Bangladesh. Bangabandhu was killed along with most of the members of his family in a coup on 15th August 1975. People from all walk of lives paid tribute to Bangabandhu and Bangabandhu’s daughter , the Leader of the Opposition and AL chief Sheikh Hasina placed floral wreath at the potrait of the slain leader. 15th August in Bangladesh was observed as a National Mourning Day and a closed holiday during Hasina’s government. However, when the BNP-Jamaat coalition government came into power they cancelled the holiday. Opposition Awami League called a half day strike today demanding that the holiday be restored and the Bangabandhu Murder Trial should resume which has stopped since the present government came into power nearly four years ago. It may be mentioned that his two daughters survived the killings because they were abroad at the time , eldest of whom , Sheikh Hasina later became the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
