Israeli Troops Drag Protesters From Gaza Synagogues

The Israeli army says it has completed the withdrawal of residents from two Gaza Strip settlements where security forces faced strong opposition to evacuation. Security forces raided synagogues in both settlements, Neve Dekalim and Kfar Darom, Thursday to remove hundreds of hold-outs who refused to leave. In Kfar Darom, soldiers also used water cannons to take control of the synagogue roof from protesters who pelted them with paint and chemicals. Police arrested at least 100 people during the skirmishes. Separately, Israeli troops evicted people from their seaside homes in the hard-line Shirat Hayam outpost. Israeli officials say several police and settlers were injured in Thursday's evictions. Officials say the last Israelis could be out of Gaza by next Tuesday.
