Indian Kashmir's top moderate separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq says he will meet Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in New York on September 17th.
The Kashmiri leader will brief General Musharraf about the talks he and his delegation had with India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting was the first of its kind since an anti-Indian separatist drive began in 1989 in Indian Kashmir. Mirwaiz Farooq told the French news agency his meeting with General Musharraf is expected to push forward the ongoing triangular peace process involving India, Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists.
India and Pakistan are engaged in a 19-month old peace process to resolve all pending disputes including the one on Kashmir, which is held in part but claimed in full by both. But Kashmiri moderate separatists have not been included in the talks.
