At Least 10 Iraqis Killed in Car Bombing

A car bomb has exploded in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, killing at least 10 people and wounding at least 15 others.

Iraqi police say the incident happened Wednesday when a suicide bomber detonated a car full of explosives in front of a busy restaurant.

Earlier, in the Shi'ite city, four American security guards were killed in a roadside bomb blast.

Also Wednesday, the U.S. military said American planes destroyed a terrorist safe house in the western city of al-Jaramil. A senior al-Queda foreign fighter, Abu Ali, was believed to be in the house during the air strike.

In other developments, U.S. troops rescued an American contractor kidnapped more than 10 months ago.

The military says information provided by an Iraqi detainee led to the rescue of Roy Hallums and an Iraqi citizen at an isolated farmhouse outside Baghdad. Mr. Hallums is reported to be in good condition.
