Israel says two Palestinian gunmen have been killed during a clash in the West Bank village of Alar. An Israeli military spokesman said a gunfight erupted early Friday morning when Israeli forces came under fire after attempting to arrest an unknown number of suspected militants in the village north of Tulkarem. He said no Israeli forces were reported injured in the firefight. On Thursday, in a speech to the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Palestinian Foreign Minister Nasser al-Kidwa said he recognized Israel's withdrawal from Gaza required political boldness, but stressed the Jewish state's control over Gaza's borders and airspace are evidence its occupation has not ended. Urging reconciliation, he also said it was up to the Palestinians to prove their desire for peace by halting terror and disarming militants.
