Thousands Rally in Washington Against War in Iraq

Thousands of people are demonstrating in Washington to call for an end to the war in Iraq.

Protesters gathered across from the White House today, Saturday for a rally that included civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Cindy Sheehan, who gained national attention protesting the war after her son was killed in Iraq.

Demonstrators were also marching through town.

Meanwhile, a small counter-demonstration was held, with participants including the mother of a soldier killed in the same ambush as Ms. Sheehan's son.

Other war protests were held in the United States and abroad. Supporters of President Bush and the war plan to rally Sunday in Washington.

U.S. polls indicate increasing discontent with the war in Iraq. But President Bush says withdrawing prematurely would make the world more dangerous.
