Indonesia Blames Suicide Bombers for Bali Attacks

  • VOA News

Bali's police chief says three suicide bombers killed at least 19 people and wounded 100 others in Saturday's attacks on the popular resort island. The chief ,Made Mangku Pastika says police found parts of the bombers' bodies at the three blast sites. Earlier reports said a total of 26 people died in the bombings. Indonesian terrorism officials say they believe al-Qaida linked Jemaah Islamiah is behind the attack. The officials are searching for at least two Malaysian members of the group who are also suspected of masterminding the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people. There has been no claim of responsibility. The latest explosions took place nearly simultaneously late Saturday at two restaurants on Jimbaran beach and another in the shopping district of Kuta -- the site of the 2002 nightclub bombings. The dead include Indonesians and at least one Australian and one Japanese. Indonesians, South Koreans, Australians, Japanese and Americans are among the injured.
