Powerful Storm Triggers More Flooding in India, Killing 10

  • VOA News

At least 10 people are dead and thousands have been evacuated from the coastal areas of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, where a storm that hit the coast of the Bay of Bengal has caused heavy rains inland. The storm, which made landfall at midday Friday, follows two weeks of heavy rains and floods that had already left more than 100 people dead in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. On Thursday, authorities evacuated some 50-thousand people from low-lying villages of Tamil Nadu, where the water was reported to be receding today.
