The Indo-US joint air exercises began on Monday at the IAF station at Kalaikunda in West Midnapore, about 150 km from Kolkata. Ibdian Air Forces’ MiG-21, MiG-27, MiG-29, Jaguar, Mirage-2000 and Sukhoi-30 participated in the exercises.
As the fighter planes flew past, activists of Left parties waved black flags in protest against the joint exercises. The protests, led by the ruling CPI(M), culminated in a rally just outside the air base, attended by about 25,000 people. However most of the crowd had their eyes fixed to the skies watching the show.
