Authorities in Paris have placed new restrictions on some public gatherings following reports that rioters may be planning attacks on downtown areas.
A ban on all public meetings "that could provoke or encourage disorder" will begin at 10 a.m. local time Saturday (0900 UTC) and end at eight a.m. (0700 UTC) Sunday.
Paris police issued the order Friday after intercepting a number of Internet and text messages urging rioters to gather in the capital.
Authorities say the violence, mostly by youths from France's North African minority population, has begun to recede in recent days.
However, state-of-emergency rules remain in effect for Paris and many other parts of the country. Authorities say thousands of police will be mobilized throughout France in the coming days.
