Indian Prime Minister Shuffles Cabinet

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made minor changes in his cabinet on Friday, shuffling some ministers to fill vacancies caused by deaths, job moves and resignations. The prime minister had been expected to expand his cabinet and bring in new faces ahead of parliament's winter session, but Friday's changes only increase the responsibilities of existing ministers. One of the significant moves was shifting Information and Broadcasting Minister Jaipal Reddy to the urban development ministry and Water Resources Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi to the information ministry. Heavy Industry Minister Santosh Mohan Deb was given the additional charge of water resources. The prime minister will continue to run the foreign ministry after stripping Natwar Singh of the portfolio last week after a probe alleged he illegally benefited in the UN oil-for-food program for Iraq.
