Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has left for Saudi Arabia to attend a summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference or the O-I-C.
Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan said the prime minister wanted to attend the summit because it would bring together leaders of the entire Muslim world to discuss issues of international concern like terrorism.
Bangladesh has been hit by a wave of bombings since August 17th, blamed on two outlawed Islamic militant groups that are fighting to turn the Muslim majority secular democracy into a sharia-based Islamic state.
Before leaving on her trip, Mrs. Zia decided to send letters to all political parties of the country to seek support for the steps being taken to combat terrorism in Bangladesh.
