Congressman Joseph Crowley, the founder and chair of the Congressional Caucus on Bangladesh, condemned the recent terrorist bombings in Bangladesh as a destabilizing force for the country of Bangladesh.
"The recent suicide bombings by right-wing extremists not only target innocent civilians but they also target the underpinnings of the vibrant democracy that is Bangladesh" said Congressman Joseph Crowley in a statement.
Last Thursday a bomb attack in the northern Bangladesh town of Netrakona killed six people. So far this year at least 25 people have died in bomb attacks, some directed at lawyers and judges. Recently a demonstration of leading Muslim clerics protested against the suicide bombings and said it was the duty of all Muslims to stand up against those who are killing in the name of Islam.
"This small minority of extremists are trying to undermine the strong multi-religious secular Democracy that is Bangladesh. Only through Democracy will Bangladesh develop into an economically successful and stable country," said Congressman Joseph Crowley.
