Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has been rushed to a hospital in Jerusalem after suffering a mild stroke at his office. Doctors at Hadassah hospital said tests showed Mr. Sharon had experienced a stroke. They added his condition had improved since arriving at the hospital and that he would be released soon. Earlier, Israeli media quoted medics saying Mr. Sharon briefly lost consciousness before arriving at the clinic. Earlier this year, Mr. Sharon orchestrated the most dramatic shift in Israeli politics in decades, after ordering the evacuation of Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip. He then broke with his right-wing Likud Party that opposed the withdrawal and formed a centrist coalition to pursue further negotiations with the Palestinians.
