In the wake of Islamic extremism in Bangladesh ,the Christian community in the country celebrates Christmas on Sunday amidst tight security. The day's festive activities include decoration of Christmas trees, special church prayers, distribution of gifts by Santa Claus to children, family gatherings and Christmas Day feasts. The government has declared the day a public holiday. In separate message President Dr Iajuddin Ahmed, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and leader of the opposition Sheikh Hasina greeted the Christian community of Bangladesh on the eve of the day and said that Jesus Christ had worked for establishing humanity and peace. Christian leaders in Bangladesh have emphasized on peace and tranquility and on the co-existence of different faiths.
