Unidentified attackers in Sri Lanka have set off an explosion inside a compound occupied by truce monitors. Officials say no one was hurt in the explosion early on Saturday in the eastern town of Batticaloa.
A spokeswoman for the monitoring mission told Reuters news agency this was the first direct attack against the monitors since a 2002 ceasefire. The unarmed monitors are all from Scandinavian countries.
The explosion came just hours after the monitors reprimanded both Tamil Tiger rebels and government forces for a recent increase in violence.
Sri Lanka's government says at least 69 members of its security forces have been killed since early December. They blame the attacks on Tamil Tiger rebels.
