DFID’s Assistance in West Bengal Criticized in a British News Paper

The Sunday Times, a British newspaper in London has criticized the way the money from the British Department For International Development (DFID) is being misused to pay off dues to the workers of those state owned factories that government has decided to close.

The British Government envisage that by 2006-2007 they would be able to increase financial assistance to West Bengal by approximately £ 50 - 60 million. All DFID assistance is untied and provided entirely as a grant. But the newspaper criticizes that the money given by DFID is being used to increase jobless people in West Bengal.
