Tape of Hostage Airs, Bodies of 23 Kidnapped Police Recruits Found in Iraq

A Jordanian man abducted by Iraqi militants has appeared in a video pleading for his life.

In the tape broadcast on Sunday, the victim said he was wearing a belt laden with explosives, and his captors have threatened to kill him. The tape aired on Arab satellite channel al-Arabiya.

Also today, Iraqi police say they found the bodies of 23 Iraqi police applicants who were kidnapped last week after insurgents ambushed their bus.

Authorities say the bodies were found near Samarra, which is where the bus was heading after the men failed to gain admission to the police academy in Baghdad.

Elsewhere, police say a roadside bomb killed four policemen and wounded nine in Baquba. In another town Balad Ruz, police say a rocket attack on a policeman's house killed the man's brother and four children.

In a separate development, the trial of ousted leader Saddam Hussein is scheduled to resume this week with a new presiding judge, and a Western diplomat says members of the former Baathist regime may testify.
