An European Union delegation known as Troika strongly advocated for an independent Election Commission as well as a manipulation-free run-up to ensure free, fair and credible parliamentary election in Bangladesh.
The delegation is now visiting Bangladesh. Leader of the delegation Nikolaus Scherk, Director for Asia-Pacific at the Austrian Foreign Ministry said ''Free, fair, peaceful and credible elections are important for Bangladesh and its image abroad. And it would be a milestone for democracy of this country. ''
Mr Scherk, who met separately with Foreign Minister Morshed Khan, Foreign Affairs Advisor Reaz Rahman and Foreign Secretary Hemayetuddin at the Foreign Ministry, said they had honest exchanges on issues.
