Fuel Crisis in Bangladesh Continues Despite Contradictions & Clarifications

The price of fuel has gone up and apparently the supply has fallen short following a recent comment from Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman who had said that price of fuel should go up. Saifur Rahman denies having said this and has blamed the media for what he calls misreporting.

Despite this clarification hoarding of fuel has continued and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has asked the energy ministry to resolve the artificial crisis within next 72 hours. Energy Advisor Mahmudur Rahman says that his ministry has not sent any proposal for increasing the fuel price. Northern Bangladesh has been severely affected by the crisis where some essential agricultural work have stopped.
