Netherlands Development and Cooperation Minister Agnes Van Ardenne was in Bangladesh on a three day visit.
Speaking at a press conference before her departure the Dutch Minister said they are concerned about the situation in Bangladesh concerned because of confrontational politics. She said election should take place in a friendly climate so that people do not feel threatened, intimidated and confused.
The minister also said "EU is always behind constructive dialogue...We are mediating between the rebel groups in Africa, so why not here. We offer our assistance and if requested and needed, EU is ready to mediate in diffusing tension and ensuring fair and transparent election preparations."
