Musharraf Upbeat on Visit As Bush Returns Home

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf says he is very satisfied with President Bush's recent visit to Pakistan.

In an interview on American television, CNN's Late Edition, the general said Mr. Bush was responsive to discussions about nuclear energy for Pakistan.

During Mr. Bush's visit to South Asia, Indian and U.S. negotiators reached agreement on a landmark civilian nuclear technology pact for New Delhi, but there were no talks for a similar deal with Pakistan.

Mr. Musharraf said he understood the United States took a different approach on the nuclear talks with India and Pakistan.

President Bush returned to Washington early Sunday morning from his five-day trip to South Asia.

White House officials are expected to soon begin lobbying Congress to approve the nuclear pact with India. Several lawmakers have been openly critical of the proposed deal.
