Richard Boucher, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia , in an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, talks about US Bangladesh relationship and President Bush’s recent visit to South Asia . He said that Bangladesh is very important to the USA. Mr Boucher said that they have known Bangladesh over the decades facing very difficulties whether it is natural disaster or political turmoil or economic problems. He said that US has always tried to help Bangladesh to become a democratic country and uplift the economic standard of its people.
Talking about the President Bush’s South Asia visit, Mr Boucher says that his visit has demonstrated our interest in South Asia. He says that the US is interested to see what is happening in India and would also like to see Pakistan progressing as a moderate society and a democratic nation. This, therefore, is an important region for the US. He expressed his optimism about the improvement of Indo-Pak relationship.
