Syed Muhmadullah , an eminent Bengali journalist in New York , in exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service focused on Condoleeza Rice and Jack Straw’s Iraq Visit. He said that this visit is likely to bring good results as the difference between the groups seem to bridge fast.
He said that issue of Ibrahim Al Jafri, the Iraqi PM is getting resolved as Shiites in Iraq are also giving him signal to step down. Mr Muhamadullah said ideally democratization of Iraq should mean an end to violence although Iraqis are still divided amongst themselves on sectarian lines .
He added that Iraq is no longer a secular country which it used to be and hence the strife for the supremacy of the Shi’ite Mullahs might continue longer than one would expect. Referring to different speeches and statements on the possibility of the withdrawal of American soldiers from Iraq, Mr Muhammadullah said that it is not likely that very soon soldiers will not be withdrawn from Iraq or else Iraq might plunge into a civil war.
