Uncertainty Over Political Dialogue in Bangladesh

The proposed political dialogue between the ruling 4-party alliance and the opposition 14-party alliance is likely to fall apart over accusations against each other.

The main opposition party Awami League says that they will not sit in any discussions where communal parties like Jama’at-e-Islami is present. Leaders from 14-party opposition alliance has taken a similar stand.

On the other hand , the general secretary of the ruling BNP said that Jamaat would be included in the dialogue. The dialogue was intended to discuss on reforms in the caretaker government and election commission as has been demanded by the opposition.

However, in recent days Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has also expressed his opposition to the proposed reform while still keeping the door open for dialogue. The contradictions are being criticized and the uncertainly seems to be certain.
